Republic of Wool at The Altered Stitch

by fishgirl182, August 06, 2015
Hi, everyone! If you listened to our last episode you might recall that Kimberly and I were very excited about an upcoming event at a LYS, The Altered Stitch. The shop was hosting indie dyer extraordinaire Republic of Wool and Mara Catherine Brynner of Rose City Rollers fame. I just wanted to give you all a brief recap of the event (which we will also discuss in the next episode).

We arrived at the shop about an hour early. This was in part due to our schedules and because we were very excited and wanted first pick of the kits that were made up for The Great Divide KAL. We fondled yarn for a bit and checked out the new cubbies and layout for the store.

As you can see, there was plenty to look at while we waited for the event to start. I'd also like to say that the shop has started spinning lessons and will be carrying more fiber tools and supplies in the future. I am super excited about this since there aren't any shops that really cater to spinners close by.

Michelle and Mara showed up a little bit before go time and started setting up some additional samples and brought out some special yarn that they had just for the event.

There was so much amazing brioche and fantastic color combos that I just wanted to knit everything in sight. I showed Mara the pair of Shibui Rose City Rollers that I made. It was kind of dorky but she was cool about it, We also got to chat with Michele a bit. She was wearing an awesome Parachutey sweater by Westknits. I don't know if I could ever pull it off but she looked fantastic.

There was lots and lots of yarn. Kimberly and I had a very hard time deciding what to get. Each skein was so unique and beautiful. It was really hard not to take them all home with us.

Pic above are Michele and Mara with Jenny (aka samandramones). Afte squeezing a few more skeins, Kimberly and I finally made our choices and purchased our skeins. We left soon after because I think we were both afraid that if we stayed, we'd buy even more yarn.

We had a really wonderful time at the event. Michele and Mara were so sweet and very cool. We were a little tongue tied when talking to them but I think we did OK. Thanks to The Altered Stitch for hosting such a fabulous event. Tune in to our next podcast episode to see what we bought...

YOTH Yarns Trunk Show at Unwind

by fishgirl182, April 13, 2015
image from Unwind

Hi, all. I know we discussed this on the last podcast episode but I just wanted to make a quick post about it in case anyone reads this blog (does anyone read this as a blog?). This coming Thursday, April 16, 2015 our LYS, Unwind, is hosting a trunk show for Yarn on the House (YOTH). If you have been listening, you will know that this is a yarn line that we've had our eye on and we are super excited that they are coming to Unwind.

YOTH will also be at Vogue Knitting Live in Pasadena over the weekend but the trunk show will give you first dibs on yarn and it will mean you won't have to fight through their booth at VKL. And if their Stitches booth was any indication, it's going to be crazy. I am pasting the details of the event below from the Unwind newsletter. I (Thuy) will definitely be there along with a friend. I don't think Kimberly can make it but we will be at VKL on Sunday, so please say hi if you see us.
They were EVERYTHING at Stitches West, what with their cute lumberjack employees, naturally dyed yarns and contemporary designs. Now they will be at Unwind on April 16th -- their only SoCal LYS visit!

Big Sister Veronika and Little Brother Danny have created quite the buzz in the yarn world, and we are so excited to host them here at Unwind! YOTH (Yarn on the House) is from Woodinville, Washington and their yarns are lovingly dyed in the famous Saco River Dye House in Biddeford, Maine.

Veronika will be bringing both their Big Sister (DK-weight, MCN blend) and Little Brother (Fingering-weight, MCN blend) yarns. We'll have yarns from the Raw Palette as well as the new Fresh Palette. There will also be a very limited amount of YOTH's sought after gradient sticks and patterns from the new Number Collection. Get here early for the best selection! Come to Unwind on April 16th between 7 -9 pm to shop these beautiful yarns, have some wine and cheese, and get to know Veronika from YOTH Yarns! It's your chance to get best pick before VK Live opens the next day.

Your $10 reservation will be applied to a YOTH purchase at the event. Sign up today!

Hope to see you there!

Vista Fiber Arts Fiesta Recap

by fishgirl182, October 21, 2014

Hi, everyone! Just popping in for a quick post to tell you a little bit about the Vista Fiber Arts Fiesta that I attended a couple of weeks ago. I don't want to get too details since I recapped the whole thing in Episode 4, but I had some fun pics that I wanted to share for those who might not follow me on Instagram

My friend P and I arrived at the Air & Steam Engine Museum around 10am right when it opened. We were greeted with this sign.

Not sure why, but this cracks me up. I did not have to dodge any tractors, thankfully. We made a single round of the vendors when we got there, stopping to fondle everything. There were some really great indie dyers at the show. Some of my favorites are below.

Knittter's Brewing Company

Candy Skein

more Candy Skein

Silly Sheep Fibers
Lazer Sheep Yarns

Inner Yarn Zen

There was also a really cool weaving barn with a bunch of looms. Some were really old while some looked more modern. I have never done any weaving before but hanging out with the looms certainly got me curious about it. I don't have the space for it but maybe one day...

Then we had lunch, which was the pulled pork special. It wasn't my favorite pulled pork ever but it was still tasty. And mmmm, BBQ sauce.

We also saw alpacas! They were super cute. I wish I could have taken a couple of them home.

I had a really fun time and I would definitely go back next year. If you want more info, please visit the Vista Fiber Arts Fiesta website.

Thanks for stopping by!

I Love Yarn Day!

by fishgirl182, October 10, 2014

Today is I Love Yarn Day and we here at Twisted Stitches really, really love yarn. Go to the I Love Yarn Day Facebook page for more info and to see what Yarn Day events are going on near year. Unfortunately I don't think I will be able to participate in any of today's local events but I will be knitting tonight and fondling some yarn.

What are you doing to celebrate?
